Morton Consulting sponsors Enterprise Social Breakfast Series

This past Friday, Morton Consulting sponsored the Enterprise Social Breakfast Series, organized by Bonnie Surma and hosted at the Microsoft offices in Innsbrook.  Not only did we get to see some of the cutting edge technology within Microsoft’s offices, but we learned about Enterprise Social with Office 365, Yammer and Azure Media Services.  Michael Gannotti, a Principal Technical Architect for Microsoft, was the speaker and the event was attended by many of the Richmond area’s advocates for Enterprise Social Platforms.

This was a cool topic for me as we started using Yammer almost two years ago as a way to collaborate internally with our team.  Oftentimes, we will have Account Managers in Roanoke or Northern Virginia and the Yammer platform proved to be a great way to keep everyone in the loop.  It’s exciting to see a message come across the dashboard that says, “Expecting two new SharePoint Developer openings in Arlington” which is quickly followed by 10 “Likes” and then the standard follow up questions for all of the details.  We also had employees share successes, pass on good articles, and share pictures or stories that gave everyone a break from the demanding work day. 

We are in the process of implementing Office 365 for greater integration between our email and applicant tracking system but after this event, I have realized that there are other areas where Yammer might be of benefit.  We have talked about rolling the platform out to an external group of our consultants and it appears that this might become a priority.  What could your team, office, or company benefit from by using Yammer?
